1. EVERYBODY IS TALKING ABOUT CBD.
WHY IS CBD OIL SO POPULAR?
Since hemp became an agricultural commodity, hemp-derived CBD extracts are flooding the market. It can often seem like everyone is involved in CBD and the products made from it. What is it, how is it made, how is it used?
WHAT IS CBD (Cannabidiol)?
"CBD" is an acronym for Cannabidiol. Cannabidiol is one of more than 100 phytocannabinoids from the plant genus cannabis sativa. A cannabinoid is one of many diverse chemical compounds that act on cannabinoid receptors in the endocannabinoid system.
Both hemp and marijuana are part of the plant genus cannabis sativa. This means that both hemp and marijuana have cannabinoids.
Confusion often arises because hemp and marijuana (Cannabis) look similar when grown. This is because they belong to the same family of plant species. However, they are not similar in their genetics. Hemp contains a lot of CBD, but not enough THC to give a psychotropic result or make you "feel high".
3. HOW DOES CBD ACT IN OUR BODY?
As we have explained, CBD is one of more than 120 (phyto) cannabinoids in the hemp plant. It is one of the many different molecular compounds that act on the cannabinoid receptors in our bodies. endocannabinoid system (ECS). The endocannabinoid system is a biological system composed of neurons, neural pathways and the CB1 and CB2 receptors of our nervous system and that of all mammals.
Many clinical and pre-clinical studies have shown that cannabinoids act as neuromodulators in many processes in the body. These include memory and appetite. Many studies are still being conducted on what CBD can do for those who choose to consume it, but what our customers tell us tells us everything we need to know.
4. HOW IS CBD OIL MANUFACTURED?
Because hemp is a cousin-sister plant to marijuana, hemp also has the same predominant compounds: CBD, Terpenes and THC. The terpenes are other CBD which give a "taste" or "smell" sensation to the product. The THC is the most talked about compound in hemp and marijuana. THC levels in hemp are naturally very low at 0.3%, making the resulting extract "non-psychoactive" or "non-psychotropic". None of our products contain THC.
The trio of compounds that can be extracted from hemp after harvest will produce various options in CBD product "spectra". You will see this described on product labels with the terms Full Spectrum, Broad Spectrum or CBD Isolate, CBG or CBN.
CBD oils from full spectrum or Full Spectrum have all the compounds found in the hemp plant. The product will contain CBD, terpenes and less than 0.2% of THC (The molecule responsible for the "high"). The products of Broad Spectrum or "Broad Spectrum", are the ones we use at Bovē Health, they have no THC, but still contain Terpenes with CBD. The products of CBD isolate or "CBD Isolate" are those that only have isolated CBD and nothing else. They have no THC, terpenes or flavonoids.
Once the hemp is harvested, the CBD is extracted using a process based on Supercritical CO2. The C02 extraction is a procedure that uses pressurised carbon dioxide to extract Cannabis Extract rich in phytocannabinoids such as CBD, the plant's highly desirable compound. This method is one of the safest and cleanest methods for the extraction of both cosmetic and food compounds.
Once extracted from the hemp crop, CBD is more like a resinous mass or honey. We combine this CBD Extract with cold pressed Cannabis Seed oil to create our much claimed "Balance Oil" CBD Oils.
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a fat-soluble compound, so it is most effective, and diffuses for absorption, when combined with a lipid such as a fatty acid. By choosing a quality carrier oil, such as Cannabis Oil, we are ensuring the safest partner for our renowned hemp-derived CBD Extract, including exclusive ingredients from a single plant.
When reading the labels of our popular isolated CBD oils for tincture, there are three differences in the CBD potency we offer, 1100mg and 1650mg. You will find this number on the front of the label of your Balance Oil. Each bottle of oil contains 30ml or 15ml.
5. HOW IS CBD OIL USED?
CBD Oils are usually consumed sublingually, although in Spain only the Topical use of CBD is regulated, so we cannot recommend that our products are used in any other way. However, the most common method of using CBD is the Sublingual or Ingested method. This means that you use a dropper from the bottle to choose the desired amount. This is the optimal way to enjoy CBD oil. By placing the CBD oil under the tongue and holding it there for 60 seconds, the mucous membranes of the mouth can absorb the active ingredients of the oil quickly and easily.
The advantage of consuming CBD oil sublingually is that the absorption process bypasses the digestive system and liver metabolisation, allowing the compounds to reach the endocannabinoid system more efficiently. But again, this method is not regulated in Spain and we do not and cannot recommend it.
For those who do not like this form of CBD consumption and in countries where it is regulated in this way (of which there are quite a few), some people put CBD oil in their morning coffee, in a smoothie or mix it with their salad.
