CBD for Pain

How CBD can reduce or relieve pain and aid recovery.

Recovery and CBD

CBD oil

The CBDCBD oil, short for Cannabidiol, is a natural compound found naturally in the hemp plant. The legality of CBD oil and hemp is still under debate. Cannabis sativa is the origin of hemp and marijuana. However, marijuana has high levels of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), a naturally occurring chemical compound that produces the psychoactive 'high' experienced when consumed. Hemp, on the other hand, has a very low THC content, which means that CBD does not have the capacity to intoxicate.

How the body uses CBD

CBD is a natural painkiller. It is the way the body has evolved to use it. The endocannabinoid (ECS), which regulates many bodily functions, is part of the human body. The body creates its own endocannabinoids when it has an ECS that is in balance. These endocannabinoids bind to receptors on the ECS to help keep the body in control. The body stops producing endocannabinoids when it is under stress or inflamed.

CBD, a potent anti-inflammatory

CBD oil is the solution. CBD oil helps to restore the body's natural balance by stimulating the receptors in our bodies. Endocannabinoid System. The anti-inflammatory properties of CBD oil make it an effective choice for pain relief. CBD acts as an analgesic in the brain to reduce the perception of pain. CBD can increase pain perception by increasing brain chemicals such as serotonin, anandamide and other chemicals.
CBD can be used to reduce pain in all types of injuries and illnesses. CBD has been shown to be effective in the treatment of arthritis by reducing swelling and stiffness. CBD can also be used to reduce the inflammation and swelling that occurs with eczema and psoriasis. CBD has a soothing effect that relieves the discomfort of eczema caused by skin breakdown and scratching.
One of the lesser known cannabinoids is cannabigerol (CBG). CBG is rapidly metabolised by the body, after which it is converted into THC and CBD.
It is a very versatile cannabinoid and potentially capable of treating a range of health conditions, according to a handful of studies.
A study recent study explored the relationship between CBG and chronic pain. The study involved a voluntary survey of patients who identified themselves as consumers of high-CBG products.
"This is the first patient survey of CBG use that documents the self-reported efficacy of CBG-dominant cannabis, particularly for anxiety, chronic pain, depression and insomnia. The majority of respondents stated that the efficacy of CBG is greater than that of conventional pharmacotherapy... and reported a very benign adverse event profile and negligible withdrawal," the researchers said.

According to the National Centres for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH), some evidence suggests that cannabis or CBD may have modest benefits for chronic pain. A 2020 review reports that CBD may have benefits for relieving chronic pain, improving sleep and reducing inflammation, but that these effects are condition-specific. More evidence is needed to determine the therapeutic potential of CBD oil and to determine safe and effective doses for pain. Based on current research, these are some of the possible benefits of CBD oil:

Neuropathic & chronic pain

Neuropathic pain is pain caused by nerve damage. This type of pain is common in conditions such as multiple sclerosisinjuries such as herniated discs, and infections such as herpes zoster. A 2017 review found that CBD helped with chronic neuropathy pain in humans. Researchers analysed 11 randomised controlled trials involving 1,219 patients. However, a 2018 Cochrane review concluded that the potential benefits of cannabis-based medicine may be outweighed by its potential harms. This research looked at the effects of cannabis-derived medicines, including CBD, for chronic neuropathic pain. Sixteen studies and 1,750 participants were analysed. More research is needed to understand the role of CBD in the treatment of chronic neuropathic pain, including risks, benefits and ideal doses.

A 2016 study in the European Journal of Pain used an animal model to see if CBD could help people with arthritis manage their pain. Researchers applied a topical gel containing CBD to rats with arthritis for 4 days. The researchers observed a significant decrease in inflammation and signs of pain, with no additional side effects. People using CBD oil for arthritis may find relief from their pain, but more human studies are needed to confirm these findings. Read more about CBD and arthritis pain on our blog.

The same report studied the use of CBD oil for general chronic pain. The researchers compiled the results of multiple systematic reviews covering dozens of trials and studies. Their research concluded that there is substantial evidence that cannabis is an effective treatment for chronic pain in adults. A separate study in the Journal of Experimental Medicine supports these findings. This research suggests that the use of CBD can reduce pain and inflammation. The researchers also found that subjects were not likely to build up a tolerance to the effects of CBD, so they would not need to increase their dose over time. They noted that cannabinoids, such as CBD, could offer useful new treatments for people with chronic pain.
