CBD for pregnant women
Is it advisable?

CBD: Safe during pregnancy? Medical consultation recommended. We tell you all about it in this article.

What is CBD ?

CBD, or cannabidiol, is a cannabis-derived compound that is attracting increasing interest due to its purported health benefits. However, when it comes to CBD and pregnancy, it is essential to ask questions about its safety and compatibility with foetal development. In this article, we will explore this complex topic and provide detailed information on precautions to take during pregnancy.

During pregnancy, ensuring the well-being of both the mother and the developing baby is of utmost importance. Therefore, it is crucial to carefully assess the possible risks related to CBD consumption during pregnancy.

Possible Risks of CBD during Pregnancy

Ingested or sublingual CBD

The use of ingested CBD is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, although it is not categorically ruled out. As a general rule, pregnant women are advised to avoid hemp and its derivatives. The scientific evidence on this subject is limited and it is difficult to draw clear conclusions. Nevertheless, it is enriching to delve into this issue to gain a comprehensive understanding of the interaction between CBD and the human body.

For example, it is suggested that cannabinoids play a role in foetal development and progression. As the body produces its own cannabinoids (called endocannabinoids), during breastfeeding, the mother naturally transfers these compounds to the baby through breast milk*. This suggests a possible influence of these molecules on the baby's development. It is important to note that this process is naturally regulated. However, caution is advised when considering the consumption of phytocannabinoids (such as CBD) during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

In summary, while there is a tendency to discourage the oral consumption of CBD in pregnant and breastfeeding women, there does not seem to be a ban on its use in cosmetic products.

Topical application of CBD

Cosmetic products with CBD are viable for pregnant women, although due to lack of thorough research we still do not fully recommend them. In fact, as the molecule does not enter the bloodstream directly, its application in this form is not suggested. Nevertheless, the numerous properties of CBD are beneficial for improving the condition and comfort of the skin during "stressful" situations.

Our Balance Oil, CBD oil can be used topically to balance the skin. For example, in cases of hormonal acne, applying a drop locally to blemishes helps reduce inflammation and promotes healing.

At Bove Health, all of our products are naturalincluding their fragrances. Therefore, with the exception of allergic reactions (which is rare in cosmetics),

We advise against the use of our pure hemp essential oil on the skin, due to the lack of scientific evidence on this aspect.

Natural solutions to pregnancy discomfort

Anxiety during pregnancy

It is common to feel stress about the pregnancy process, worry about childbirth and nervousness during this uncertain time. To cope with this, experts suggest holistic techniques such as sophrology and meditation. A midwife at the CHRU in Brest advises taking advantage of resources such as meditation and mental preparation.

Back pain relief

Back pain, whether due to sciatica, the weight of the baby or breastfeeding, is a challenge for pregnant women. Massage, Yoga or Physiotherapy can be the most convenient natural solutions to these discomforts.

Hormone-related skin changes

Skin transformations are common during pregnancy due to hormonal changes. If the skin becomes more oily or dry, it is important to adapt the care routine according to individual needs to keep the skin protected.

Preventing stretch marks during pregnancy

Skin elasticity varies among women and some women may notice stretch marks in areas such as the chest, abdomen and hips during pregnancy. To reduce this risk, it is crucial to take preventive measures.

Postpartum hair loss

Hair loss after childbirth is common due to hormonal changes. To stimulate hair growth and hair care, the hemp oil is effective. Its natural proteins stimulate the production of keratin, promoting hair growth. Regular massaging of the scalp with the fingertips can accelerate the hair regeneration process.

Changes in libido

Coming to terms with body changes during and after pregnancy can be challenging. Women at this stage may experience changes in their sexual desire due to discomfort with their bodies. To address this, the midwife emphasises not to feel pressure and to normalise the body after childbirth: "It is important to normalise the body of women who have given birth and to reduce pressure.

Conclusions on CBD during pregnancy:

During pregnancy, a variety of options are available to combat stress. From using CBD in skin care products to adopting alternative therapies for pain management and emotional tranquillity, each mother-to-be can tailor her approach to her particular preferences and needs.
