Skincare and CBD: All you need to know
CBD seems to be everywhere these days, appearing in a number of product categories, some beneficial and some downright questionable.
What does the new research say about CBD, CBG, terpenes, cannabis, your skin, and how can you add this super ingredient that will completely change your daily skincare ritual?
Here's what you need to know:
First, we tell you the basics about CBD:
CBD stands for Cannabidiol, one of the many phytocannabinoids found in cannabis including hemp. Our body produces its own cannabinoids (called endocannabinoids), such as anandamide and 2-arachidonylglycerol (2-AG), but according to new medical research, opting to increase your body's natural supply of cannabinoids can be beneficial for your body. That's where oils, skin care products rich in CBD, CBG and other cannabinoids come in.
Unlike Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the cannabinoid that cannabis is noted for its intoxicating properties, CBD will not get you high, nor will it intoxicate you. In fact, by law, in Spain, "hemp" is generally defined as cannabis containing THC levels not exceeding 0.3%. Our hemp extract undergoes additional refining processes to completely remove the THC molecule, while respecting other beneficial cannabinoids or terpenes.
This extraction process results in a form of oil or resin commonly called Broad Spectrum Hemp Extract, which is what we at Bove Health choose to use in all our products, as well as in combinations with other cannabinoids such as Cannabigerol or CBG. The broad spectrum extract is up to 4 times more effective in activating our endocannabinoid system compared to pure CBD extracts (see our blog to find out more).
CBD and skin care: how it works
Studies such as the 2019 study published in Molecules or the one published in 2020 in Nature discovered that the Endocannabinoid System is intimately connected to the maintenance of our skin's balance.
In other words, your Endocannabinoid System or your "Cellular Balance System" may be the key to healthy, fresh and youthful looking skin.
Our Balance Oil is an oil rich in CBD and more cannabinoids, acting in such a way that it repairs, nourishes and moisturises our skin.
The skin, with CBD, opens up the pores very quickly due to its anti-inflammatory properties, and its effects show in the areas where it is applied very clearly, in many occasions it seems like "magic".
How to incorporate CBD into your skincare routine?
Here are some ways to incorporate CBD skincare products into your regular routine:
Bring CBD into the bath. If you already enjoy relaxing in a warm bath, adding CBD to the mix can be a great way to maximise relaxation time. Not only does CBD offer a whole body benefit, but our Balance Oil, in addition to cannabinoids, is accompanied by relaxing essential oils from the Cannabis plant designed to have a restorative effect on your body.
Try our CBD Oil. You don't need to change your entire beauty ritual to enjoy the benefits of CBD, you just need to enhance it a little. Use our Balance Oil on your skin, both facial and body, and take care of yourself. Our CBD oil can promote smooth, glowing, intensely hydrated and above all, stress-free skin.
Consider incorporating CBD oil into your diet (in Spain the internal use of CBD is not regulated and therefore we cannot recommend it, although the WHO does). Whether you like coffee or tea, add a few drops of CBD to your drink, studies have shown that consuming this phytocannabinoid orally can also contribute to healthy, balanced skin by acting from the inside out, much like vitamins, basically.
In short: CBD can be integrated naturally into your wellness ritual. And there is no wrong way. You just have to start.
